River sweeps through Creek

Linley Theroux and Will Hirsch tore it up from the mounds on Monday as Nansemond River swept host Deep Creek, winning 10-1 in baseball and 4-1 in softball. Hirsch gunned 13 strikeouts and allowed just one hit, and Theroux struck out 15.

Michael Joseph batted in two runs for the River boys, and Collette Butler knocked in a pair for the Lady Warriors.

At Oscar Smith, the Tigers held off Lakeland 13-10. The Lakeland-Smith softball game was cancelled.

In other softball action, King’s Fork fell 6-3 to Western Branch and Nansemond-Suffolk Acad-emy lost to Nandua, 6-4. NSA’s boys lost to Hampton (Pa.) on the diamond, with the final score unreported.

King’s Fork headed to Nansemond River on Tuesday for baseball and softball, and Lakeland hosted Great Bridge.

NSA heads to Windsor on Wednesday.
