‘Images and Artifacts’ at Riddick’s Folly

Riddick’s Folly is sponsoring a special exhibit, &uot;Images and Artifacts of the Civil War,&uot; in concert with the city’s second annual Civil War Weekend April 9 and 10.

The house museum, located at 510 N. Main St., will feature an array of items from the Civil War era in its exhibit that runs through May 15.

Among the items displayed will be a folio, loaned by the Virginia Historical Society, of 72 drawings done by Half the drawings, which depict military life during the Civil War, were done on location in Suffolk.

Other sketches show areas of southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.

A highlight of the exhibit is The Rose of Camp Suffolk, an oil painting by Place that has never before been viewed in public.

Other items on display include a collection of pistols, belts and breastplates, swords and many more pieces, all from a private collection.

Riddick’s Folly will offer narrative bus tours to five preserved Civil war sites, Union re-enactor Bill Lynch and on Sunday, a firsthand audio account from an actual Civil War soldier from Courtland who lived to be 105.

Riddick’s Folly will be open from 10 to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday during the festival.
