Community helps out

Kudos to all who turned out Saturday for the Drew Henley Memorial Softball Tournament in Churchland.
The tournament was held to benefit the family of Suffolk Police officer Drew Henley who died recently in the line of duty.
Thanks also to all the local businesses and individuals who chipped in with prizes and sponsorships for the event. While it may be a little selfish, we’re particularly proud of this event because it was the brainchild of one of our own, Michael Curbelo, an advertising sales consultant with the News-Herald, who was also the driving force in getting it organized.
ASA officials hope to make the memorial tournament an annual event.
Henley died while performing his duty-protecting the citizens of Suffolk. Giving a little back to help his wife and children through such a traumatic experience is the least a community can do. The News-Herald was proud to be a part of it.
