Editor, the News-Herald:
The Freedom Isn’t Free Memorial Ride and Benefit in the memory of Marine Sgt. Jayton Patterson is Saturday, May 7.
Jayton grew up in Wakefield and was killed in Iraq on January 15, 2005.
The proceeds go to his 18-month-old-daughter, Claire Patterson’s Trust Fund.
The memorial ride registration is from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at Tidewater Motorcycles, 4324 Godwin Blvd/Route 10, Suffolk.
There is a $5 donation per person for the ride with police escort at 10 a.m. to the Wakefield Airport Park.
All motorcycles are welcome.
The benefit at the Wakefield Park will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a gate donation of $5, except ride participants.
There will be food vendors, a variety of music all day, warbird airplanes to tour, plane rides for a small donation and a military fly over at noon. There will be satellite parking along with shuttle buses.
For more information, go to www.bikerenews.com.
Along with helping Claire’s trust fund, we hope to show the nation that our community cares about our fallen soldiers and the families they leave behind.
