Bernard Mitchell

Bernard Mitchell, of 3105 Strathmore Ave., passed away quietly April 26, 2005 in University of California San Francisco Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was a resident of Norfolk. He was born December 24, 1962 and reared in Suffolk. He was a graduate of Suffolk High School class of 1981. While there Bernard was a member of the band and basketball team. He attended Norfolk State University and played intramural sports.
He was a lifetime member of Metropolitan Baptist Church. For many years he was a member of the Army Reserve and a former Norfolk police officer. At the time of his death, he was employed by Vance International based in Oakton, Va.
He will be remembered for his devotion to his family. Those who knew him will always remember his honestly, loyalty, and strong work ethic. His sense of humor and booming laugh was legendary.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles E. Mitchell. Bernard leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Teresa Mitchell; his son, Charles Anthony Mitchell; mother, Edith B. Mitchell; sister, Jacqueline M. Copeland (Alvin); mother-in-law, Mattie Mullen; father-in-law, Jasper L. Mullen; brother-in-law, Jem Mullen; nephews, Buryl Flythe Jr. (Luanna), Alvin Xavier Copeland, Evan E. Copeland, Ian E. Copeland; nieces, Jamila L. Taylor (Richard); great nieces; Jada Taylor, Janii Taylor; Jalea Taylor; aunts, Shirley Darden, Evelyn Wills, Celestine Mitchell, Ruth Mitchell and a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, at Metropolitan Baptist Church, County Street, Suffolk, with the Rev. Robert L. Hobbs presiding.
