Whaleyville’s largest annual celebration will kick off today with something for everyone, beginning with a parade at 9:30
a.m. in the heart of the Suffolk village.
The parade route runs from John T. Mullen Street, along Whaleyville Boulevard to the Community Center just north of the fire station.
Police will stop traffic on Whaleyville Boulevard in both directions for approximately 15 to 20 minutes during the parade.
Motorists can detour via the Little Fork Road/Great Fork Road corridor or Freeman Mill Road, said Dennis Craff, city spokesman.
Councilman Curtis R. Milteer Sr., who has represented the Whaleyville Borough for almost three decades, is the parade’s grand marshall. The Suffolk Rotary Club selected Milteer as this year’s First Citizen, an honor bestowed to outstanding community leaders.
