Community Health Fair today

Capernaum Seventh Day Adventist Church, 314 York St., is sponsoring a Community Health Fair from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at 134 S. Sixth St. There will be free screenings and more. For more information call 934-8561 or 934-3518.

Ruritans Founder’s Day Parade

The Holland District Ruritans annual Founder’s Day Parade will be held at 11 a.m. today in Holland. The day begins with the wreath laying at the Ruritan monument, followed by the parade.

The Khedive Shriners will be there with many of their units.

Bands from area high schools, including Lakeland, Nansemond River, Kings Fork, Windsor, Southampton, and Franklin, will compete for prizes. There will be activities throughout the day at the ballfield. The Athletic Association will have food for sale. There will also be fireworks on the ball field at 8:30 p.m.

Beef-A-Rama today

The all you can eat annual Beef-A-Rama will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. today at Davis Lakes and Campground. The event will start with a noon social. The menu consists of beef barbecue, baked beans, apples, hush puppies and coleslaw and beverages. There is a $12 donation per person. There will be live music by Juice, formerly the DEKADES. All proceeds are for the benefit of Khedive Transportation Fund. Make check payable to Khedive Transportation Fund.

Annual Driver Ruritan Club Barbecue today

The Driver Ruritan Club is holding its annual Bar-B-Que Chicken fundraiser today. Dinners are $6 each. The dinners include barbecue chicken, green beans, potato salad, roll and tea or coffee. The dinners will be served at Berea Christian Church between the hours of noon and 6 p.m. Dinner is eat-in or take out. The church is located on 4109 Driver Lane. West End Civic League meets Monday

The West End Civic League will meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Oxford United Methodist Church (use the South Broad Street entrance).

Residents are encouraged to attend and find out what is happening in their neighborhood.

Nansemond Parkway Civic League

The Nansemond Parkway Civic League will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday in Tabernacle Baptist Church, 3667Nansemond Parkway.

SPOR-AC holding signups

The Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring the SPOR-AC Summer Leadership Program from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays July 11 to Aug. 4 at Nansemond River High. The program offers a variety of team-building activities, computers, educational seminars and field trips. Parents must have completed registration form, proof of child’s age and a $20 fee. Only checks and money orders payable to Ronald Williams, treasurer, will be accepted. Children must be between 12-15 years. Register at the Parks and Recreation administration office at 1305 Progress Road from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. For more information, call 923-2367.

Senior aerobics offered

Senior aerobics is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Suffolk Senior Center, 350 N. Main St. Betty Cartwright instructs this class, which is free to seniors 55 and over. For more information call the Senior Center at 923-2372.

Holland UCC welcomes seniors

Holland United Church of Christ, 6733 S. Quay Road, is opening the fellowship hall from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays to all seniors for refreshments and games.

Mother and Daughter brunch

The Friends Christian Club is sponsoring a Mother and Daughter Brunch, featuring a musical show and games, on Saturday, June 4. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Holland Community House, 6887 Neverland Drive. Cost is $10 per person. For tickets, contact any Friends Christian Club member or call 934-0341.

Boston butt sale

The Magnolia Ruritan Club will hold a boston butt sale on June 4 at their clubhouse at 1047 Nansemond Parkway. The boston butts will be cooked by the members and available for $20 each and include a pint of barbecue sauce. Tickets are available from any member or by calling 539-8251, 539-6719, or 538-2325. The orders must be placed prior to May 27.
