Roberts roll to top in college ball

Robert Hedrick and Robert Crumpler, both of whom were ranked among the best in their respective baseball leagues during their time in Suffolk high schools, have achieved similar honors in college.

Hedrick, who made the All-Southeastern District team last year at Lakeland, was the only freshman on the Unive-rsity of California in Pennsylvania team to make the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference First team.

A third baseman, Hedrick helped the Vulcans to a share of the league crown. He hit .310, including two doubles, two triples and a home run. He drove in 18 runs and scored 31.

Crumpler, who helped Nansemond-Suffolk Academy to the TCIS tournament title in 2002-03, was named the Big South Player of the Week after slugging seven hits in four games last week for Virginia Military Institute. In helping the Keydets to a 3-1 record, he scored five runs, hit two doubles and batted in six runs.
