Louise (Carolyn) Poteat Chandler died on Sunday morning May 29, 2005 at the age of 80. Carolyn was born in Yanceyville, N.C. on September 7, 1924. She and Charlie Chandler were married on September 8, 1942 in Fort Sill, Okla. while Charlie was stationed there in the Army. They later made their home in Suffolk following WWII.

Carolyn was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church. She enjoyed a lifelong working career that included J. P. Boone’s TV, Peoples Life Insurance Company, and manager of the Lipton Suffolk Employees Federal Credit Union. She also maintained an active business in ceramics for years in Suffolk, to which many ladies can attest. In addition to these accomplishments she was a loving and devoted wife and mother who always found time for family and friends. She will be missed by many.

Carolyn is survived by two sons, Chuck and Rudy, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Chuck lives in Orlando, Fla., with his wife, Sandy and son, Derrick.

Chuck and Sandy’s daughter, Kelly Stevens and her husband Bob also live Florida with their son, Carolyn’s great-grandson Zachary.

Rudy lives in Virginia Beach with his wife Nancy.

They have two sons Michael of California and Mark and his wife Lauren of Virginia Beach.

Carolyn’s family would like to thank all of the friends and neighbors for their concern and much needed support as she struggled to lived without her late husband Charlie, who died only 48 days prior to her of April 11, 2005. This has been a trying time for the family and everyone’s help has been deeply appreciated.

Visitation will be held Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk.

A funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Christian Church, 1549 Holland Road by the Rev. Jonathan S. Palmer with a short burial service in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will be honored to receive guests at a reception in the fellowship Hall at Bethlehem Christian Church following the burial.
