The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) and the city of Suffolk are seeking volunteers for the 17th annual Clean the Bay Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

CBF, Farm Fresh Supermarkets, and Waste Management of Virginia, co-sponsors for Clean the Bay Day, hope more than 5,000 volunteers will participate in this year’s event to clean up 275 miles of shoreline.

Clean the Bay Day is an opportunity for individuals, families and groups to clean up debris from waterways across Hampton Roads.

Boaters, divers and landlubbers are needed to serve as zone captains, registration assistants and trash collectors.

Zone captains receive a free Clean the Bay Day shirt.

Clean the Bay Day media sponsors are radio stations WNIS, WTAR, 96 X, BOB-FM, and The Zone and TV

NewsChannel 3.

Appropriate clothing for the day includes long pants, closed-toe shoes or boots and work gloves, and volunteers should bring sunscreen, bug repellent and water.

Advance registration to volunteer for the cleanup is required.

The event is rain or shine.

Suffolk cleanup sites are located at Lone Star Lakes, Bennett’s Creek Park and Sleep Hole Park.

A post event picnic will be held for cleanup volunteers.
