Harry Lee Weaver, 81, died Saturday, June 4, 2005 in Lake Prince Woods. He was born in Nansemond County, on October 11, 1923 and lived in his home for 81 years until less than a month ago. He was the son of the late Richard A. Weaver and Kate Clements Weaver and was the eighth of nine children.

He graduated from Holland High School and farmed for several years before deciding to lease his land. He worked for Colonial Farm Credit as a loan officer for many years and retired from there on a Friday and went to real estate school the next Monday.

He enjoyed a very successful real estate career, winning many awards in his twenty-three years as an agent with Chorey and Associates Realty. He was a member of the Hampton Roads Realtors Association and was a member of the Million Dollar Sales Club. He was Rookie of the Year his first year selling real estate and won many gold awards, most recently in March 2005, when he also received a longevity award.

He was a past Master of the McAllister Masonic Lodge #185 and past District Deputy of District #33 and recently celebrated his 60-year anniversary as a member of the lodge. He was an active member of the Holy Neck-South Quay Ruritan Club for 63 years. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of Colonial Farm Credit and Community Electric Cooperative. He was also a member of the Gideons International. Until his health declined, he had donated 112 pints of blood to the American Red Cross.

He served as a judge at the election polls for more than 50 years and became the chief judge in the Holy Neck precinct in 1980. When he retired from that position in 1995, he held the record for having served at Suffolk’s polls longer than anyone else.

He was a dedicated member of Holy Neck United Church of Christ, where he taught the Men’s Bible Class for 40 years. He was a member of the church’s Board of Trustees, as well as many other committees.

He was quick with a joke and was always willing to help others. He was a self-made man who was widely known for his kindness and generosity to others.

He enjoyed having lunch at George’s Steak House in Suffolk, where he ate lunch six days a week for many years.

He is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Gladys W. Weaver; his daughter, Kay W. Hurley and her husband Bucky, of Suffolk; his son, Ted C. Weaver, of Suffolk, and step-granddaughter, Laura Hurley. He was predeceased by his eight brothers and sisters and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Neck United Church of Christ by the Rev. Dolan Talbert with burial in Holland Cemetery with Masonic Rights. The family will receive friends in the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. and at others times at the home of Kay and Bucky Hurley.
