Dyke, Almond advance professionally, academically

Aviance S. Dyke was recently awarded a doctorate of pharmacy from the Bernard J. Duss School of Pharmacy at Shenandoah University.

Her brother, James (Jim) Almond, the senior executive director of the Boys and Girls Club in Alexandria, was inducted into the Academy of the Boys and Girls Club Professional at the distinguished level.

Only 151 administrators out of 7,000 have received this level.

Dyke received a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Fort Valley, Ga., and a bachelor of science degree in Health Physics from the University of Las Vegas in 1999 in

Las Vegas, Nev. A 1994 honor graduate of Tallwood High School in Virginia Beach, Dyke was the recipient of a full CDEP academic scholarship. Dr. Aviance Dyke has accepted a position with Eckerd’s Pharmacy.

In 1986, Almond received a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Saint Paul’s College in

Lawrenceville. He has worked with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America for 15 years beginning as a counselor at the South Side Club in Norfolk. He was also director of the Virginia Beach Club. Almond also opened, staffed and served as director of the Emporia organization. A 1981 graduate of Churchland High School in Portsmouth. Jim resides with his wife, Sonya and sons, Derrick and Dominic in Woodbridge.

Aviance and Jim are the children of Sandra L. Scott of Suffolk and the grandchildren of Leon Davis and the late Ernell Vann Davis.
