Stars and Stripes Spectacular to be presented by Charter Communications

Celebrate Independence Day at the Stars and Stripes Spectacular presented by Charter Communications on the banks of the Nansemond River on Monday July 4th from 4:30 to 10 p.m. Entrance to the Constant’s Wharf Park and Marina is free and open to the public. The children’s area will include fun and games and prize. The cost is

$5 per child. Jason Swain and Island Boy will perform. There will be a

Cow Pie Bingo

B-I-N-G-O! Try your luck at Cow Pie Bingo. The Suffolk chapter of the American Red Cross will host Suffolk’s first Cow Pie Bingo event. The cow determines the winner by making a &uot;deposit&uot; on one of the squares. Chances on each square are sold for $10. Only 100 tickets will be sold. The winner will receive a gift basket of local certificates and items valued at over $600. The event will take place at the Suffolk Executive Airport at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 25. Attendance is not mandatory to win. The winner will be awarded a gift basket of local certificates and gift items valued at over $600.

Hero Hoe Down

Tired of traffic, crowded malls and hurried days? Join the Suffolk chapter of the American Red Cross from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 25 at the Suffolk Executive Airport for our first annual Hero Hoe Down. The menu will include barbecue, cole slaw, baked beans, roll and soda.

Entertainment will be provided by local musician Jason Swain, the Peanut City Cloggers and KlownTown Entertainment. Tickets to the event are $15 for adults and $10 for children and includes meal and all entertainment and activities.

Skill Building Cheer Camp

The All American Spirit Cheer team is offering a one-day skill-building camp from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Lakeland High School. The cost is $35 per participants. The program is open to ages 5-18. No cheer experience is necessary. The basics of cheer jumps, tumbling, stunting and dance will be taught. Bring a bag lunch. Drinks will be provided. Booker T. Washington Alumni

Booker T. Washington Alumni Associations final meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday June 18 at the Boosters Lodge on East Washington St. This is the last meeting before the reunion July 8-10. For more information call 539-9359.

Water Safety Day at Cypress Pool

The Suffolk chapter of the American Red Cross will be sponsoring their annual Water Safety Day from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, June 24 at the Cypress Park Swimming Pool located on Oregon/Arizona Avenue in Suffolk. Options include KidCare ID (Parent or Guardian must be present for child to receive ID), blood pressure screening, live dive team show, a life jacket relay, free hot dogs and drinks.
