The bands are favorite local Hampton Roads bands including The Perfect Ransom, Unsed and The Blacktop June. The admission is free with a $3 suggested donation. Rising St. James

Rising St. James, located at 201 N. Sixth St. and Bank Street Extended, will have a Holy Convocation from June 25-July 1 with guest speakers Bishop Gordon and Bethlehem Church of Norfolk, Bishop Copeland with Faith of Deliverance Apostolic, Bishop W. P. Wiggins and New Mt. Joy Worship Center, and Evangelist Tully Wood. Kenny Shields and the Tri-City Chorale, Prenell Luster and God of Deliverance will render music. Youth week at

Solomon’s Temple

Solomon’s Temple, 12479 Courthouse Highway, Smithfield, will host Youth Week 2005 from June 12-17.The theme is &uot;Holla At Me,&uot; Matthew 7:7. &uot;Youth Revival&uot; will begin at 7 p.m. nightly. The special guest for Tuesday and Thursday will be Pastor John Davis and Sandy Mt. Baptist Church; Wednesday, Minister Trevon Walker, an associate minister at Bayview Holiness Church. Friday night will feature &uot;Let’s talk about it&uot; wherein high school seniors and college students will speak about their experiences.

At 7 p.m. Friday, June 24 the Unity Service Praise Dancers will sponsor the service.

Hugenot orchestra to

perform at East End

The Hugenot Road Baptist Church Orchestra of Richmond will perform in both the 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship service Sunday, June 19 at East End Baptist Church, 523 E. Washington St. This 30-piece orchestra, under the direction of Phillip Brown, is made up entirely of church member volunteers ranging in age from Middle School through adults. The orchestra regularly plays in worship services as well as larger works and concerts and is currently on an Eastern Virginia concert tour. The orchestra presents a wide variety of musical styles and will highlight more than 20 of East End’s instrumentalists during its visit. Call 539-3324 for more information.

Youth Crusade at

St. Paul RZUA

The St. Paul R.Z.U.A Church, located at Spruce and Lewis Avenue, will host its annual Youth Crusade on July 6-8. The guest minister will be National Evangelist Willie Riddick, a native of Suffolk. Along with the spoken word, various choirs and praise dancers will minister during the services. Praise and worship will begin at 7:30 p.m. each night. Usher appreciation at Gethsemane Baptist

Gethsemane Baptist Church, 1656 Copeland Road, will honor three former ushers: Mrs. Clarine Holland, Mrs. Elizabeth Hall and Mr. Ernest Williams for their faithful service.

The pre-appreciation service will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 25. The special guests include the Saratoga Gospel Community Choir of Suffolk, under the direction of Willie Barnes.

Hillcrest Baptist rambling across the U.S.

Hillcrest Baptist Church, 1629 Holland Road, will ramble across the nation on an unparalleled road trip. Ramblers can gather for this Vacation Bible School road trip.

Children from grade six through 12 are invited to join the Vacation Bible School for Teens July 11-15 at the church each evening from 6-9 p.m. Built around an RV road trip across the USA, the week will be full of exciting Bible Study, crafts, RV camp-related refreshments and recreation for everyone.

Pentecostal Holiness Churches of America

The Pentecostal Holiness Churches of America Inc. will hold its annual Youth Conference Saturday, June 25-26. The event will be held at St. Paul’s PHC, 20663 Thomas Woods Trail, Zuni. Also, St. Paul PHC will host Family and Friends Day at 3 p.m. July 10. The guest speaker for the event will be Evangelist Leona Gay from Philadelphia, Penn.

At 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday, Solomon’s Temple, 12749 Courthouse Hwy., Smithfield, will have altar prayer. At 7 p.m. Christian Instructions to Discipleship Sessions (C.I.D.S) take place. July 4th celebration at Wilroy Baptist

Wilroy Baptist Church, 306 Williams Road, will be celebrating the nation’s birthday at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 3. There will be a time of recognition of all of the Armed Forces, active and inactive, as well as special music honoring our nation. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served at noon. Saturday Night Live Gospel Explosion

At 6 p.m. Saturday, June 25, A Saturday Night Live Gospel Explosion will be held at Faith of Deliverance Soul Saving Ministries, 239 Holladay St. featuring Minister of Music James Copeland Jr., the Voices of Deliverance, Nuwine Gospel Singers, Voices of Praise, Eric Knight, and Denita Baker, all of Suffolk and the Mitchell Gospel Singers of Portsmouth. 130th anniversary at Gethsemane Baptist

Gethsemane Baptist Church, 1656 Copeland Road, continues the celebration of its 130th anniversary of service for God with guest worship leaders. The theme is &uot;130 Years of God’s Grace and Mercy.&uot;

Each Sunday during the 11 a.m. worship service and will honor this celebration with reflections of our past history, the on-going building champions for Christ, and the teaching of God’s Word. The 11 a.m. morning service speaker will be the Gethsemane Baptist Church Pastor, the Rev. Nathaniel Scates Jr.

The worship leaders for the morning service will be former members who will share some of their growing up worshipping experiences as &uot;Children&uot; of the Gethsemane Baptist Church Family.

Deacon Jacqueline Holland Silver will serve as worship leader on June 19. She is the daughter of Deaconess Erma Holland and the late Deacon Melvin L. Holland Sr. She is the wife of Willie A. Silver.

They have one son, Marcus Sr., and one grandson, Marcus Jr. Jackie currently works as an admissions counselor for the job corps.

Youth revival at Lakeview Missionary

Lakeview Missionary Baptist Church, 635 Brook Ave., will have a Youth Revival beginning at 7:30 p.m. nightly through June 17. The Rev. Ernest L. Reid, pastor of Olive Branch Baptist Church of Portsmouth, will be the guest minister for the week. Choirs from the Tidewater area will sing each night.

Orchestra performing at Huguenot Road Baptist

The Huguenot Road Baptist Church Orchestra of Richmond, will be in concert at 7 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2005 at the Western Branch Baptist Church in Suffolk. This 30-piece Orchestra under the direction of Phillip Brown will present a program that will be appealing to all ages. The HRBC Orchestra is made up entirely of church member volunteers raging in age from Middle School through adults. The orchestra regularly plays in worship services as well as larger works and concerts and is currently on an Eastern Virginia concert tour.

The program will include a wide variety of musical styles something for everyone. There will be well-known hymn arrangements as well as new contemporary favorites. There are even selections specifically for children. There is no cost for this event.

Young Women in Christ sponsor ball

Young Women in Christ Ministries is sponsoring a formal ball at 5:30 p.m. July 9 at the Planters Club. The evening’s entertainment will include dinner, a praise team, praise dancers and raffle drawings. There will be a $20 donation for this event.
