Two Suffolk men were killed in a single-vehicle crash in Southampton County around 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Derrick Javonne White, 24, of Austin Drive and Deronn Quenta Goodman, 20, of Magnolia Drive, both passengers in a 2005 Dodge Durango, died after their vehicle struck several trees along on U.S. Route 460, west of Zuni, said Sgt. D.S. Carr, spokesman for the Virginia State Police.

The SUV veered off the road when the driver, Travis Devone Copeland, 21, of Chisholm Lane, fell asleep at the wheel, Carr said.

White was pronounced dead at the scene and Goodman was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he died from his injuries around 1:10 a.m. Sunday, Carr said.

Copeland was taken to Obici Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Carr said. He was charged with reckless driving. Neither high speed nor alcohol contributed to the accident, Carr said.
