Suffolk nine faces busy week

Two make-up games in the Peanut Baseball League will be played tonight with Suffolk at Smithfield and Surry at Windsor. Both games will start at 8 p.m.

After tonight’s game the Suffolk team will open its home campaign tomorrow night at Peanut Park with Smithfield as their opponent.

Suffolk has a game pending here Friday night with Windsor and Sunday the locals invade Gatesville, N.C. for a non-league game.

The postponed Merchants night will be held here Friday, July 8. On Saturday night Windsor will entertain the Portsmouth American Legion nine.

One game was played over the weekend in the Peanut league. Surry defeated Windsor, 4-2, at Surry Sunday afternoon behind the seven-hit pitching of Albert Lane.

Frogging requires a hunting license

Did you know that if you go frogging in Virginia and only have a fishing license that you can be fined?

The point of law came up in Nansemond County Trial Justice Court this morning after four sailors were fined $10 and costs each for trespassing on Lake Prince by frogging without a permit. According to Game Warden Shelton Rountree, you must have a hunting license to go frogging because a frog is a mammal.

Mrs. Roy Richardson heads Suffolk Christian Church

The Women’s Fellowship of the Suffolk Christian Church presented a new slate of officers and chairmen for the 1955-56 term last night at their annual picnic dinner at the Planter’s Club.

Going in as president is Richardson, first vice-president, Mrs. Harvey Brown; second vice-president, Mrs. James F. Darden; recording secretary, Mrs. Randolph Chapman; treasurer, Mrs. George I. Wells; corresponding secretary, Mrs. Lewis Brothers; publicity chairman, Mrs. L. E. Rawles; pianist, Mrs. Ruth Howell and assistant pianists, Mrs. J. J. Felton.

Mrs. J. E. Rawls presents painting to Philathea Class

A special program was held at the Suffolk Christian Church Sunday when the Philathia Class was presented an oil painting of &uot;The Last Supper&uot; by Mrs. J. E. Rawls Sr. in memory of her husband, Dr. J. E. Rawls Sr.

The scripture, the thirteenth chapter of First Corinthians was given by Mrs. Brown followed by the hymn &uot;How Firm a Foundation.&uot; Mrs. J. E. Rawls Sr., presented the painting to the class. The gift was accepted by Mrs. Brown
