I was glad to see in Sunday's paper that Fannie Gayle will be the chef at the Main Street Jazz Club.

Gayle owned and operated the Front Street restaurant on N. Main, which was a favorite of mine, and not just because it was the only game in town, which it was.

My particular favorite was a grits and kale soup, which I've never seen anywhere else. I hope it's on the menu at Main Street Jazz.

The desserts at Front Street were always special as well so it's likely that Main Street Jazz will be one of the better eateries in town.

As I mentioned last week, we are in the middle of a big Web site sales promotion this week for suffolknewsherald.com.

Since the site was relaunched in March, usage has more than doubled, something of which we are particularly proud.

I read a story in Sunday's New York Times headlined "The Newspaper of the Future," which was about the World in Lawrence, Kan. It's a 20,000 circulation daily, a behemoth by our standards but small in the world of daily newspapers.

The story was how the World had created one of the most heavily used local newspaper Web sites by having a lot of interactive services with readers. We hope to do that, as well.

About the only truly interactive feature we now have is our calendar, in which people can enter their own events. Next to our front page, it's the most heavily viewed page we have.
