A Whaleyville businessman on Wednesday questioned whether development at the Suffolk Executive Airport has been grounded.

Cardinal Pilot Shop owner Roger Leonard, during the Suffolk City Council’s public comment session, said the city is continually stalling his efforts to move ahead with construction of a new building at the airport.

Leonard said he hasn’t gotten any answers from the city since his proposal was approved nearly a year ago.

&uot;Ten months has elapsed and I still don’t know where we are going,&uot; said Leonard. &uot;I’m confused…and I’m getting agitated. I don’t know why it has to take so long.

&uot;Financing is in place, commitments are lined up and expectations are raised,&uot; he said. &uot;In the commonwealth, that’s a deal. If you don’t intend to do it, say so.&uot;

Leonard asked city official to send him a letter that includes specific timelines and deadlines for the airport development.

A second speaker, Dennis Godwin, expressed concern over the city’s recent decision to pull advertising from the Suffolk News-Herald.

Godwin said he believes the newspaper is not covering or publicizing city-sponsored events because the city stopped advertising.

&uot;You need to straighten out your relationship with the newspaper,&uot; Godwin said.

&uot;You do not have your constituents’ trust.&uot;

Also, Godwin, who handled promotions for a race car appearance at the city’s July 4 celebration at Constant’s Wharf, called the event a success.
