Rev. Richard Walker Jr.

The Rev. Richard Walker Jr., &uot;To God Be The Glory,&uot; 70, of 1004 Blythewood Lane, Suffolk, died July 5, 2005 in Obici Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Suffolk. He was the son of the late Richard Walker Sr. and Lillian Carter Walker and stepson of the late Ruth H. Walker. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Dennis L. Walker and Charles A. Walker; and his sister, Vivian Riddick.

Pastor Walker attended Booker T. Washington High School and also Union Christian Bible Institute where he received a Bachelor of Theology. He was presently serving as pastor of Union Bethel AME Church in Smithfield. He retired from Newport News Shipbuilding. He was member of the AME Ministers Alliance, Silvers Strands Senior Citizen Club of Chesapeake, and Virginia Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Outlaw Walker of Suffolk; a son, Minister Richard Walker III (Jacqueline) of Norfolk; a daughter, Cynthia Walker Mack (Samuel) of Hartford, Conn.; four grandchildren, Tamara D. Walker of Hartford, Conn.; Dennis L. Walker (Christina) of Fayetteville, N.C.; KiAnna N. Walker and Anthony L. Walker, both of Suffolk; three great grandsons, Dennis L. Walker Jr., Christopher L. Walker and Amereon D.L. Walker; and a host of other loving family and friends.

The funeral will be at noon, Wednesday, July 13, 2005 in St. John AME Church, 545 E. Bute St., Norfolk. The Rev. Adam Jefferson Richardson Jr., presiding Bishop of Second Episcopal District. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery. A wake will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2005 in Crocker Funeral Home.
