Mr. George Duke Sr., 93, of Americus, Ga., died early Monday, July 11, 2005 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center in Americus.

A native of Marion County, Ga., Mr. Duke was born July 11, 1912, son of the late D. Hollis Duke and Della Snider Duke. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, he taught architectural engineering at ABAC for two years and worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Mr. Duke designed the first self-propelled John Deere combine. He was a member of the Golden Kiwanis Club and a member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church in Albany, Ga.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 13 from the Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel in Americus with the Revs. Nancy Scarbrough and Betty Lou Miller officiating.

Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the League of the Good Samaritan, 2001 S. Lee St., Americus, Ga., 31709, or to the Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 2200 Dawson Road, Albany, Ga., 31707.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mrs. Mae &uot;Mickey&uot; Duke of Americus, Ga.; a son, George B. Duke Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two nephews, Ray Duke Sr. and Lonnie Duke, and a sister-in-law, Annie Pearl Tripp, all of Americus.
