Cassandra Robinson Newsome

On July 8, 2005 at 5:30 a.m., Cassandra Robinson Newsome was called to Heaven from the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth.

Cassandra Benita Robinson was born to John Henry Robinson and Beulah Mae Wright Robinson on August 18, 1961 in Burgaw, N.C. She was raised by Roscoe Wright, Ruby Daniels and Joe Daniels. She was baptized on June 24, 1967 into Rush Temple AME Zion Church in New York. After moving to Miami, Fla., she became a member of St. Peters Baptist Church where she served in the choir faithfully until she moved away.

Cassandra leaves a void in the heart of her loving and devoted husband, Kenneth, her dad, Roscoe Wright of Jamaica, N.Y.; mom, Ruby Daniels (Joseph) of Miami, Fla., step-mom, Linda Robinson, of Ivanhoe, N.C.; step-grandmother, Addie Wynn of Suffolk; father-in-law, James and Eula Newsome, mother-in-law, Eula Newsome and grandmother-in-law, Mary McCoy, all of Wilson, N.C.; stepson, Eric Newsome; stepdaughter, Kelley Ann Newsome of Norfolk; six sisters, Retha (Kelvin) Herring of Waldorf, Md.; Laura (Lawrence) Campbell of Spring Lake, N.C.; Lisa (Corey) Martin of Virginia Beach; Freda Woods and Jacqueline (Matthew) Williams, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Ethel Mann of Miami, Fla.; four brothers, John (Wendy) Robinson of Fayetteville, N.C.; Delta (Sylena) Robinson of Atkinson, N.C.; James and Dominae Robinson of Burgaw, N.C.; four sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law; four nieces, four nephews, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, godchildren and friends.

The family will receive friends today in the home of Thomas and Doris Turner, 4413 Anchor Bend Court, Chesapeake. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2005 at Pleasant Union Baptist Church, 215 Webb St., Suffolk. The Rev. Vaurice T. Chambers will officiate. Burial will be in the A.G. Horton Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk. The family will assemble at 1 p.m. in the home of Ardell Wright, 803 Seminole Drive in Suffolk, for the funeral procession. T.E. Cooke-Overton funeral home is in charge.
