Lauren Doughtie, a familiar face on the golf team during her years at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, hasn't lost a step since summer vacation began.

One day after helping Virginia to a 10.5-5.5 win over Maryland in the Seventh Virginia-Maryland Junior Girls' Team Matches in Ashland, Doughtie tore up Fredericksburg at the 80th Virginia State Golf Association Women's Amateur Championship, shooting a 71 to grab the third seed.

At the Ashland event, Doughtie teamed with Hunter Ross of Manakin-Sabot to defeat Hayley Milbourn of Baltimore and Bethesda's Jessica Unger Saturday and fell to Pikesville Michelle Grilli in singles competition Sunday.

Match play at the Amateurs began late Tuesday.

Doughtie graduated from NSA in June, and will start at North Carolina State this fall.
