All the talk in the media this week seems to be about the role Karl Rove might have played in the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame. The G8 summit, London bombing and Hurricane Dennis were last week n old news.

Many are asking whether the president will fire Rove, as he promised he'd do with anyone in his administration who leaked the information, or whether Rove will come through it unscathed (that's' where I'd put my money), or something in between.

First off, any opinion would be merely speculation. While it's clear Rove was at least operating on the fringes of the law, we don't know whether he was the one who actually outed the agent, or whether a crime was even committed. The investigation will have to run its course.

Be that as it may, I have to pass this along.

Ed Helms, the fake reporter on the fake new show, "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central, offered this analysis of the situation last night:

The problem for the president in all this is what honor to bestow on Rove. If you recall, former CIA director George Tenet was awarded the medal for freedom after claiming the weapons of mass destruction case against Saddam Hussein n the reason we went to war and nearly 2,000 Americans have been killed and possibly 10,000 wounded n was a "slam dunk," which of course was wrong.

Then there was then-National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, who ignored a report titled "Bin Laden determined to strike inside the United States," just a little more than a month before the 9-11 attacks. She got promoted to secretary of State.

And now Rove, who while trashing a dude's wife as political payback may have committed treason. Look for the president to name Karl Rove chief justice of the Supreme Court.

I wouldn't be surprised.
