Modern dating

I can’t believe that I missed watching &uot;The View&uot; last Thursday. The View airs from 11a.m.-noon weekdays and last week featured a good friend’s daughter, Reisha Raney, who is becoming a big celebrity.

She was featured along with two other women, Cyn-thia and Amy, all of whom are co-starring in a new reality show called &uot;Hooking Up.&uot;

Reisha is the daughter of Robert (Bob) Raney, who resides in Suburban Woods. She will be making her debut on the third episode of &uot;Hooking Up&uot; at 9 p.m. Thursday on ABC and has another appearance scheduled on Aug. 4.

Raney contacted me Monday about Reisha’s appearance on &uot;The View&uot; and the fact that she was also featured on NBC’s &uot;Entertainment Tonight&uot; that same Thursday. He then paid me a visit with interesting information and a complimentary taping of the show about Reisha.

Reisha, 30, was born in Washington, D.C. and is now a resident of New York, N.Y. She holds a B.S. degree in mathematics from Spelman College and a bachelor of mechanical engineering degree from Georgia Tech. She is now the president and owner of Encyde Telecommuni-cations and Network Solutions, a family-owned business that employs her brothers, Rodney and Bob. According to Bob, this company has more than 45 years of combined expertise in the field of information technology and provides telecommunications procurement and consulting, construction, building management solutions and network solutions.

On &uot;The View&uot; Reisha said that she decided to sign up for the show after finding out that there is a huge stigma connected with dating online, despite the fact that about 40 million people are doing it. She also said she thought this kind of dating received a negative response from blacks but later found out that it is just the opposite.

&uot;Hooking Up&uot; will run in five episodes and involves cameras following 11 women for one year doing online dating. The first episode premiered on Thursday, July 14, and the second one was aired on Thursday, July 21. Those featured in the first two episodes were Amy, 35, a real estate broker, who said that she is looking for a husband and wants to have babies; Claire, 26, an advertising executive who fell for a man but was later dumped by him via email; Jennifer, 35, a gynecologist and surgeon, who thinks she has found an interesting guy; Cynthia, 33, a manager of a hair salon, who has dated three men and said all of them are jerks; and Kelly, 35, a second grade teacher, who went out with a man seven years her junior.

The third show tomorrow night will show Reisha as being both excited and scared about her first date. Her fears will be fueled by her mother’s fears of poisoning or abduction and her mother’s voice will be heard in a telephone conversation in the background conveying these fears.

Bob is not involved in any of the shows and said that he is not too worried because Reisha has had more experience in dating than he has and seems to know what she is doing.

Sparks will fly on Reisha’s first date when she meets Acie from Atlanta, but unlike most of her co-stars, Reisha makes an unconventional choice to hold off on a physical relationship, including kissing, until she determines she wants to marry him.

&uot;A kiss to me is a commitment and I’m not ready to make that commitment until I’m ready to make my last one,&uot; she said.

Will Reisha’s guy wait for the conclusion of this romantic experiment? Tune in and find out.
