Rev. Louis Hoover Burgess

On July 30, 2005, our beloved Pastor Emeritus, Brother, Stepfather, Uncle, Cousin, Friend and Pioneer Louis Hoover Burgess was called from labor to reward at Obici Hospital, Suffolk.

He was born in Bailey, N. C. to the late Harvey and Leatha Brand Burgess.

Rev. Burgess was pastor of several churches in North Carolina and Virginia in the past 35 years.

His last church was Hickory Grove AME Zion until his health prevailed.

He worked for many years as a driver for Noland Plumbing Company.

He leaves to cherish fond memories: a devoted friend, Callie Williamson; two sisters, Ersell Maddox (Alton) of Philadelphia, Penn. and Doris Faison of Wilson, N.C.; one brother, Saul Burgess of Richmond; three stepdaughters, Francine Jarmond of Ann Ambor, Mich., Nanzette Blount of Durham, N.C. and Pamellia Davis (Bernard) of Upper Marlboro, Md.; one stepson, Matthew D. Jarmond (Virginia) of Raleigh, N.C.; seven step grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

The viewing is from noon to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2005 at T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home. A wake service will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday. The funeral will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005 at Hickory Grove A.M.E. Church, 1419 Mariner St. in Frankin. The interment will be at the Albert G. Horton Memorial Veteran Cemetery in Suffolk. Professional Services are entrusted to T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home.
