Mary Howell Reid

Mary Howell Reid of the 3500 block of Manning Road entered into eternal rest and peace Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005 in Obici Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Nansemond County and daughter of Mrs. Mabel I. Howell and the late James T. Howell.

She was a graduate of East Suffolk High School and received an Associate’s Degree from Tidewater Community College. She also studied at the College of Typing and Technology and the American Institute of Banking and Computer Technology. She was employed as Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court of Suffolk.

She was a member of First Baptist Church on Mahan Street, where she served as Financial Secretary and a member of the Finance Committee, the Willing Workers Committee, Missionary Circle, Helping Hand Committee, the Anniversary Book Club and

the Chums Club.

She leaves to mourn her loss and cherish her memory her husband, Clarence H. Reid of Suffolk; her mother, Mabel I. Howell of Suffolk; four sisters, Barbara H. Campbell of Jersey City, N.J., L. Sharon Howell of Virginia Beach, Theresa H. Reyes of Adelphia, Md., and Iris H. Williams (Christopher) of San Diego, Calif.; four brothers, James T. Howell Jr. of Irvington, N.J., Enos P. Howell (Shelley) of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Lonnie T. Howell of Suffolk and Timothy T. Howell (Marsha) of Portsmouth; a special brother-in-law, Michael Campbell; a special sister-in-law, Brenda Howell; three sisters-in-law, Erma Holland, Lillian Reid and Mary Ashe; special sister-friend, Sarah Knight and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 8, 2005 in First Baptist Church by the Rev. Stephen G. Blunt. Interment will be in Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at 11:30 a.m. Monday. The family will receive friends at Crocker Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
