Gladys Wright Weaver

Gladys Wright Weaver, 76, died Aug. 9, 2005, in Lake Prince Woods.

She was born in Amelia County on June 30, 1929.

She was predeceased by her parents, Mary Emma Johnson Wright and Phillip A. Wright, and her husband, Harry Lee Weaver, who died June 4. They would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on Aug. 18.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kay W. and Bucky Hurley; son, Ted C. Weaver and step-granddaughter, Laura K. Hurley, all of Suffolk.

She graduated from Amelia High School, attended business school in Richmond, and worked as a bookkeeper for Southern States Cooperative in Richmond before her marriage. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. After raising her children, she returned to work as a bookkeeper for Johnson’s Gardens, Inc. and worked there for four years until she lost her vision. She learned to crochet, enjoyed talking books, continued to be an excellent cook and coordinate her colorblind husband’s clothes. She was a member of Holy Neck United Church of Christ and the Ladies Bible Class.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the R. W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home and Crematory at 509 W. Washington Street, by the Rev. Dolan Talbert with burial in Holland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home and other times at the home of Kay and Bucky Hurley.
