Jean Boyer

Jean Ashworth Chandler Boyer, 80, a former resident of Suffolk and Arrowhead Beach, N.C., died Aug. 12, 2005, in Orange Park, Fla.

Born Aug. 1, 1925, in Danville, she was the daughter of the late John Douglas and Frances Grant Ashworth. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Theodoric James Chandler Sr., a son, Theodoric James Chandler, Jr., a daughter, Rose Marie Chandler and a brother, John D. Ashworth Jr.

For 30 years Mrs. Chandler was the owner and operator of Chandler’s Studio, a professional portrait and commercial studio in Suffolk and for 13 years was a real estate broker in Virginia and North Carolina.

She was a former member and local officer of the Virginia Professional Photographer’s Association.

She was a 40-year member of First Baptist Church in Suffolk and then a member of Bandon Chapel in Arrowhead Beach.

Survivors include her husband, Robert E. Boyer of Orange Park, Fla; her sisters, Barbara A. Vedral of Bronx, N.Y., Betty A. Gonce of Orange Park, Fla., Gloria A. Glover of Ashland, Ohio; 28 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the graveside in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the R. W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home and Crematory from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Condolences may be registered at www.rwbakerfh.com.
