Nansemond River’s golf team remained unbeaten Wednesday, winning their fourth match in as many outings, at Bide-a-Wee Golf Course, defeating Oscar Smith 324-374.

Nolan Butler’s two-over par 74 earned medalist honors for the Warriors; and Butler’s playing partner, Rashad Hunt shot 75.

Butler shot 38 on the front nine, got back to even par through 16 holes, but then played the 17th and 18th in two-over.

Calvin Mason’s 83 and Ryan Foster’s 92 made up the rest of the winning total for the Warriors.

River head coach Don Horne said, &uot;We got to get (the bottom two) scores to come down, and then I’ll be satisfied. But we’re working at it and we’re getting there.&uot;

A run of three straight birdies on holes nine, 10 and 11 gave Cavalier freshman Ben Hunter a one-under par round of 71, for the medalist spot during Lakeland’s 308-326 loss to Hickory, also at Bide-a-Wee Wednesday.

Hickory, Southeastern District favorites, had three golfers shoot in the 70’s to upend Lakeland.

Augie Camacho’s 79, Nick Howell’s 80 and Josh Winslow’s 96 were the other three scores in the Cavalier team total.

Nansemond River (4-0) and Lakeland (3-2) are both off until Monday, when the Warriors play Great Bridge and the Cavs take on Indian River. Both matches will be at Cahoon Plantation.
