Last season, a double dose of Hunt helped the Nansemond River golf team all the way to the top of the Southeastern District. This season, younger Rashad has to do the helping on his own.

But the sophomore, whose brother Greg graduated last year after the Warriors finished in a three-way knot with Great Bridge and Hickory, isn’t exactly quaking in his cleats.

&uot;It’s great,&uot; he said during practice at Sleepy Hole Golf Course. &uot;I practice more than I did last year. My game has gotten longer, so I can save a little bit of strokes. I think we can go back to regionals if we keep this up (the team started the year 4-0).&uot;

&uot;I think we can play better than we’ve played (so far this year),&uot; said coach Don Horne. &uot;Nolan (Butler) has worked hard; he’s playing better this year, and Ryan Foster’s pulling up the slack for me.&uot;

Thus far, Butler, Foster and Calvin Mason have been battling it out with Hunt for the top four River spots.

&uot;We can make it to regionals,&uot; Mason said. &uot;I think we have the team and the talent. I’ll hopefully get a medallist (lowest scorer in a meet) this season.&uot;
