Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (SRHA) executive director Clarissa McAdoo was granted a 4 percent salary increase Tuesday night by the Authority’s Board of Commissioners,

The increase makes McAdoo’s annual salary $91,110.

Last year, SRHA commissioners granted McAdoo a 5 percent raise along with a one-time $4,000 bonus.

This new raise, according to Commissioner M. Caroline Martin, was &uot;based on the merit&uot; of McAdoo’s past performance, which included the SRHA coming out of the red during the 2005 fiscal year after two consecutive years finishing in debt.

Martin, speaking for the administrative and finance committee, commended McAdoo’s work and leadership.

The pay raise motion passed unanimously.

In other business at Tuesday’s regular monthly meeting:

nMcAdoo said the Inspector General’s final report concerning the audit from the 2004 fiscal year would be coming out in about 10 days.

McAdoo said the report was expected to &uot;come out very good,&uot; and the SRHA would be &uot;real pleased&uot; with the final report.

nThe Authority unanimously approved an expenditure of $5,000 from the bond fund to go to King’s Kids.

The Authority has a 16-year track record of supporting King’s Kids.

Betty Knight, executive director of the program, along with Commonwealth Attorney C. Phillips Ferguson, Sheriff Raleigh H. Isaacs, and city council member Curtis R. Milteer all spoke in support of the volunteer organization that serves young people, attempting to teach life skills and how children can turn into productive citizens.

King’s Kids works with hundreds of youths, both in and outside of public housing, in Suffolk.

&uot;Whatever you give, the dividends will come back to the community,&uot; said Milteer.

Ferguson said King’s Kids provides, &uot;the types of thing that teaches kids to be on the right track.&uot;
