The Suffolk Family YMCA is having a Grand Re-Opening tomorrow from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The "re-opening" will celebrate the completion of many new additions and renovations to the YMCA, and according to Stephanie Clark, "to thank our existing members for everything they do and for putting up with all the changes."

The new changes include new exercise studios, a new pilates studio, new spinning rooms, a new climbing area for kids, and walls full of murals and paintings which illustrate the history of Suffolk and the area.

Specifically about Saturday and their "re-opening" party, food, games, inflatables, DJs, clowns, face painting, prizes, and over 25 vendors will be on hand at the YMCA.

The YMCA itself will be holding mini cardio classes, fitness evaluations, and nutritional information sessions.

Bringing in new members is also a part of the big day.

Clark, who works in Membership Services, said, "we also want Saturday to be a welcome for new, prospective members."

September will be a special membership month.

The Suffolk Family YMCA will be offering member joining fees at reduced rates; on each day during September, that day will be the joining fee.

On September 1, the fee will be $1, on the 2nd, $2, and so on.

Aside from the added studios and athletic facilities, Clark said, "our real goal has been to bring the past into our future here," and the new murals, depicting historic features of Suffolk history such as Riddick's Folly, the Obici House, the Nansemond Tribe, and of course, Planters and peanuts, visually prove that goal as soon as the front door is opened.

In addition to Saturday's festivities, the YMCA will also be having a Family Night on Friday, Sept. 9, with "Back to School at the Pool" being the theme.

Outside by the pool, karaoke, games, and free pizza will be at the party, celebrating a successful first week of school for most of Suffolk's kids.

On Saturday, Sept. 10, the Suffolk YMCA will be joining other area Y's at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens for the Activate America Family Walk.

Activate America's goal is to help "Americans live longer, better and healthier lives through community-based solutions to combat obesity and inactivity."

The event is from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
