Old dog learns a new trick (and forgets an old one) #110; Aug. 26, 2005

I was so excited this morning when I formatted, uploaded and published the newspaper to the Web site. It was my first time doing it. I typically try to avoid learning things as long as possible. I used to not be that way. I would jump in and try to learn to do everything I could. But sometime in the past couple years I believe I reached the maximum capacity of my limited brain power…I started forgetting stuff.

It seems like every new thing I learn has to bump something out of my head to make room for it.

But because of some personnel changes here at the paper, we found ourselves with limited knowledge of the workings of the Web site. We had a training session Thursday afternoon with the folks at Townnews.com, the outfit that hosts are site, and they walked three or four of us through the basics of formatting material for the site and uploading it.

It's not difficult, but it is time consuming

Unfortunately, I think we were all so excited with our new knowledge last night that we went out to celebrate and neglected to update the site.

I started working on it when I got to work and after an hour or so, I had it. Then it took another hour, along with a call to tech support at townnews, to correct all my mistakes.

I think the site now is updated and ready to go.

We're sorry for the inconvenience and asked you to bear with us over the coming days while we work out a new system for updating suffolknewsherald.com as regularly as it needs to be.
