Police have made an arrest in the Monday night shooting of a Battery Avenue resident.

Clarence Lee Artis III, 19, of the 300 block of Hunter Street, was charged in the shooting, which an investigation revealed was linked to another incident shortly thereafter.

Just after 9 p.m., police were called to the Battery home that Sutaan Rahyhime Clark, 27, shared with his roommate. They found that Clark had been shot, and died soon after.

Minutes later, a call came in reporting a gunshot victim on Kilby Avenue. The victim of that shooting, it was discovered, sustained his injury during the robbery and murder of Clark. His name and condition were not known at press time.

Artis, who is being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail, has been charged with one count of murder, armed robbery, armed burglary and wearing a mask in public, and three of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Clark’s mother Margarita said she didn’t know Artis.

&uot;It’s still hard for me believe that someone would kill Taan,&uot; she said, using her son’s nickname. &uot;I’m feeling like it was more than just (Artis). He may have been the triggerman, but I think there was more to it.&uot;
