Obici Hospital, located at 2800 Godwin Boulevard in Suffolk, will offer &uot;Camp Wellness&uot; through its Occupational Health Services Department. The camp will take place in classrooms C&D of the hospital’s Garden Level on Friday, Sept. 16. This event is geared towards employers who want to learn successful interventions on keeping their employees healthy. The camp starts at 8 a.m. Registration is required and costs $45 a person. Some of the highlights include:

-&uot;The Importance of Being Healthy – Individual and Community Impact,&uot; with speaker Dr. Denton Weiss of the Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Center of EVMS.

-&uot;Making Healthy Eating Decisions,&uot; with Registered Dietician, Karen Newton. Find out what employers can do to help employees make good food decisions. Weight loss and dieting will also be covered.

-&uot;Physiology of Weight Gain and Weight Loss,&uot; with registered Pharmacist, Nat Jones.

-&uot;Disease Management – Employer Driven Initiatives for Managing Chronic Illnesses,&uot; with Dr. Timothy Lee, Medical Director, Obici Occupational Health Services.

Fitness breaks will be incorporated throughout the day. A healthy breakfast and lunch is also included. Call 934-4079 for more information.

-The Obici Wellness Center, 2769 Godwin Boulevard, will offer a FREE Breast Health Tea on from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13. Join Breast Health Coordinator Barb Gardella, an R.N. of Obici Hospital, and breast cancer survivor Jackie Edwards for this educational event. Tea, coffee and light refreshments will be served. The Obici Wellness Center is offering the following screenings for October 2005:

-Free Blood Pressure Screening, Thursday, Oct. 6, from 9 am till noon. Free.

-Glucose/cholesterol/blood pressure, first Tuesday of the month, from 9 a.m. till noon. Includes total cholesterol, HDL (good cholesterol), total/HDL ratio, blood glucose and blood pressure. The cost is $20. The next screening is Oct. 4.

-Bone density screening for women, second Tuesday of the month, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The results of this test are used to assist physicians in the diagnosis of osteoporosis. The cost is $20. The next screening is Oct. 11.

-Health risk appraisal, a combination of self-reporting and clinical measurements (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, cholesterol, body fat and glucose.) Blood work includes HDL, LDL, total cholesterol, total/HDL ratio, triglycerides, and fasting blood sugar. You will receive a written report with a prevention education follow-up. Cost is $50. -&uot;Trans Fat: The Hidden Fats and How to Find Them,&uot; nutrition class with registered dietician Karen Newton. Thursday, Oct. 20, from 10 a.m. till 11 a.m. The cost is $10.

The Wellness Center will offer two healthcare classes for CPR certification and Nutrition and Breast Health Classes in October:

-The Healthcare Provider CPR course is designed to meet the needs of healthcare professionals who respond to cardiac and respiratory emergencies and airway obstruction. A certification card is included. The class will be held on Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. till 3 p.m. The cost is $60.00. Pre-registration and payment are required.

-Heartsaver CPR with AED is designed for lay rescuers who may need to respond to life-threatening emergencies for adult, infant, and child victims. A two-year certification card is included. The class will be held on Oct. 18, from 9 a.m. till 3 p.m. The cost is $60.
