C.J. White carried for 148 yards and two touchdowns as the Nansemond-Suffolk Pee-Wee squad defeated host Smithfield 24-0 in Pop Warner action Saturday afternoon. The Mighty Mite and Pee-Wee Saints also won their respective games, and the Nansemond-Suffolk Junior Midget squad beat the Downtown Athletic Association.

NS moved 35 yards in eight plays on its opening drive to reach the Packer 28. A holding penalty knocked them back to the 40, but Tyler Edwards got 16 yards back with a pass to Harrison Spalding and Bobby Estienne rumbled five yards. A false start pushed NS to the 24, and Edwards threaded a pass past one defender and through another’s hands to Spalding, who charged down the left sideline for a touchdown.

Estienne crossed up Smithfield by recovering an onside kick on the next play, but NSA didn’t score on their next two drives. But on a second-and-seven at the NS 48, White burst through the left side of the line and scrambled all the way to pay dirt for a 12-0 halftime advantage.

He ran 34 yards on the first drive of the second half to reach the Smithfield 10, but NS couldn’t move forward. Their defense held and got the ball back on the 10, and White rushed straight up the middle for a score. Josh Thomas got NS’s final score on a four-yard rush late in the fourth quarter.

It’ll be a intra-Suffolk battle next Saturday, as the Saints play their first home game of the season against Inner City of Suffolk.
