All three Suffolk high school golf teams wrapped up their regular season schedules Monday at Suffolk Golf Course with Lakeland upsetting Nansemond River, 328-341, and King’s Fork losing to District top-seed Hickory, 308-339.

For the second intra-Suffolk match in a row, Lakeland’s depth proved to be the deciding difference.

The Cavaliers that scored were Ben Hunter (77), Augie Camacho (80), Nick Howell (85) and Charles Sari (86).

Rashad Hunt was medalist, firing a three-over par 75 (37-38), but none of River’s top players were able to shoot their normal low rounds.

Nolan Butler (84), Calvin Mason (84) and Trea James (98) were the other River scores.

Recently aerated greens at Suffolk made any mid-to-long distance putt very difficult to keep on line.

Even Hickory, which is now one of two Southeastern schools to clinch a regional tournament berth, was not able have a player finish at or under par.

The Bulldogs shot one of their lower team totals of the season, with Shane Doherty (82), Dan Brown (84), Mike Steingold (86) and T. J. Woodard (87) making up the King’s Fork total.

&uot;It really was not too bad, but it still wasn’t Hickory good,&uot; said Bulldog coach Tim Goetz.

All three Suffolk schools now look forward to the 36-hole district tournament next Tuesday and Wednesday at Nansemond River Golf Club.

Hickory and Great Bridge have already earned Eastern Region spots.

The third-best team will earn the last spot.

&uot;Anything can happen, it could be any team that gets the third spot,&uot; said Lakeland coach Ron Robertson. &uot;It’s just who plays well those two days.&uot;

&uot;The guys are out of school all day, so they certainly don’t mind,&uot; said River coach Don Horne.
