Nansemond River and Lakeland have their first gridiron battle of the season tonight at River at 6 p.m., as the junior varsity teams square off. River won last year, the Cavaliers the year before.

The varsity teams go fast and furious at 7 p.m. Friday. The Warriors, coming off a victory over Wilson, have won the last three meetings between the teams, including a 12-7 victory last year. Lakeland, which lost to Lake Taylor in its first game, had a bye week last weekend.
