Nansemond River field hockey got back into their Southeastern District stride Wednesday afternoon at Indian River with an 8-0 drubbing of the Lady Braves.

Ashley Aston, Katelyn Yandle and Jessica Watahovich all had two goals apiece and Tina Valdevieso and Amber Shaffer scored one each for the Lady Warriors (5-4, 3-1).

After getting goals in the opening 15 minutes from Aston and Yandle, the Lady Warriors were then held almost until halftime. Watahovich notched her first of the day to break the drought about 90 seconds before the break.

"We were somewhat flat out there after the first two goals, and I take responsibility for that," said Nansemond River coach Darryl Yandle. "That's why I subbed out the whole team."

For the last 10 minutes of the first half and all of the second, the Lady Warriors used ice hockey-like line changes every eight to ten minutes.

Shaffer, normally the first-string keeper, spent most of the second half playing forward and was rewarded with the Lady Warriors' first goal of the new half off a corner penalty and an assist from Catie O'Hara.

Four more Lady Warrior goals spanned the final 20 minutes of the match who now, after getting through six matches in the last week, have a week off before their next contest.

The Lady Warriors will host Oscar Smith at 5 p.m. on Sept. 21.
