After their impressive performance against Norview Sept. 2, King’s Fork expected to take the field with a strong showing against Hickory Friday. On the first drive of the game, Sam Parker pulled down a Hawk pass for an interception- proving that the Bulldog’s strong defensive showing against Norview wasn’t a fluke. But after the interception, the Bulldogs failed to capitalize. The Hawks, however, were able to make big gains, rolling all the way to a 52-12 win.

Staring the third quarter down 31-0, the Bulldogs took the field energized and ready to attack. It wasn’t until late in the third quarter, though, that the Bulldogs claimed their offensive territory. After an 18-yard run from Vernon Jackson, Shaka Miller launched a 60-yard pass to Kevin Pittman for a touchdown. The success repeated once more, as Angelo Beale scored on an eight-yard run late in the fourth.

Throughout the game, the Bulldog defense, led by J.R. Tennyson and Jay Phelps, was able to keep the Hawks from pulling many big plays. Aside from several longs runs and completed passes, the Hawks were kept to short gains on every drive.

Head Coach Cecil Phillips knew his boys had played a hard-fought game.

&uot;Our kids work all week, then play as hard as they can for 48 minutes straight,&uot; he said. &uot;Tonight, we just didn’t execute.&uot;

The Bulldogs will visit Western Branch next Friday.
