On Oct. 1, Suffolk will take a small step back in history – and some might find a gold mine there.

Riddick’s Folly will be holding its seventh annual Hidden Treasures antique appraisal show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn Conference Center. Experts will be there to appraise antiques and heirlooms, in categories such as books and publications, Civil War artifacts and firearms, clocks and timepieces, coins and currency, dolls, furniture, jewelry, linens, quilts and coverlets, paintings, prints, primitives and folk art, needleworks, porcelain and glass, silver, sports memorabilia, and toys and games. The cost is $5 per item.

&uot;We’ve been getting repeat customers,&uot; said Folly assistant director Lee King. &uot;People are drawn in from as far away as Manteo, N.C.&uot;

Funds from the event will go toward the restoration of the law offices of Nathanial Riddick.

&uot;We’re excited about this,&uot; said Hilton general manager Keith Alexander. &uot;We’ve tied a lot of history into (the Hilton), and we want to be a part of the history of Suffolk. We are not a part of new Suffolk; we are a rebirth of old Suffolk&uot;.
