Goal comes too late for Lady Cavs

Lakeland just waited too long to score.

Katie Byrum sent an assist to Lynsey Daughtrey with 5:38 left and the Lady Cavaliers had a few shots after that, but couldn’t get one in in time to tie visiting Tallwood 2-1 Monday afternoon.

The Lady Lions went on the attack from the start, scoring 51 seconds into the game and not allowing the Lady Cavs a shot for the first half. The second half began basically the same, with Tallwood stretching its lead to 2-0 2:31 in.

Nicole Klee sent a pass to Byrum on the right side of the Tallwood circle with six minutes left, and Byrum sent a bouncing pass through the circle, where Daughtrey slid it into the circle. Lakeland had three shots in the closing minutes, but didn’t score in their first loss of the season.

The Lady Cavaliers, still perfect — and unscored upon — in the Southeastern District, host Indian River today.
