Saints fall in soccer, volleyball

Three first-half goals by visiting Stonebridge was too big a hill to climb for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Tuesday afternoon as the Saints lost to the Cavaliers, 4-1, in a non-conference soccer match.

The opening minutes of the match were evenly-played with both teams getting chances on goal.

Each side had tried four shots when the Cavaliers broke through in the 14th minute, and continued to heap pressure on the Saints defense, scoring twice more in the next 25 minutes.

NSA’s lone goal came in the 54th minute.

Matthew Davies took a hard shot from just outside the left side of the Stonebridge box, forcing the keeper into a diving save.

The save left the ball directly in front of goal however, and Shea Ahlsted was the first to pounce on the rebound and finish off the goal.

The Saints (2-8, 0-1) were at Hampton Roads Academy today for a TCIS match.
