Jaquan Parker and Minfield Hearns scored two touchdowns in 3:34 as the King’s Fork junior varsity squad clinched its first-ever intra-Suffolk title Thursday night, charging past host Nansemond River 27-13 (they defeated Lakeland earlier in the season).

A.J. Harper got the Bulldogs on the board in their first drive, lunging three years for a touchdown and 7-0 lead. Darryl Brickhouse ran 15 yards for a River score, but the extra point missed, leaving Fork up by one.

Hearns cut loose midway through the second quarter, racing 50 yards for a touchdown. But the extra point missed this time, and when Brickhouse threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Kwame Jordan, the game knotted at 13 at halftime.

Four minutes into the third quarter, Chris Thomas gave River a golden opportunity by falling on a Hearns fumble at the Fork 21, and a false start penalty gave River five more yards. But the Warriors lost four yards over the next three plays, and Tyrece Sheperd knocked away a Brickhouse pass on fourth down.

Hearns quickly redeemed himself with a 10 yard run, and Harper scampered 28 yards to the River 40. Mike Mason got the 33, but Fork was knocked back three yards. A touchdown run by Harper was nullified by a holding penalty, but Hearns ran 11 yards to the Warrior 21 on the last play of the third quarter.

Major McNair took a delayed handoff up the middle for 10 yards to the 11, but Hearns was tackled at the 16. Harper and Mason got back to the 10, leaving Fork with a fourth-and-nine.

Mason faded back, then handed off to Hearns, who darted toward the left sideline. Nearing the edge of the field, Hearns handed a reverse to Parker, who charged back around the right side. A tackler went around his waist at the five, and another at the one, but he managed to land with the ball inches on the other side of the goal line.

The Bulldogs caught a break on the kickoff when the Warriors couldn’t corral the ball, and Hearns fell on it at the River 36. McNair rumbled 24 yards over the next three plays, and he and Hearns made it to the five. Then Hearns took the ball around the right end for a touchdown and 27-13 lead with 3:43 to play.

The Warriors had one shot left, as Brickhouse threw a 20-yard strike to Jordan, then ran 41 yards to the Bulldog four. The next two plays lost one yard each, and a pass fell incomplete on third down. On fourth, with 1:16 on the clock, Brickhouse hit Bruce Williams at the one, but he was swamped by a storm of white Fork shirts, and the threat and game was over.
