Apple Fest

Magnolia United Methodist Church, 1764 Wilroy Road, will hold its annual Apple Fest Saturday, Oct. 22.

Please call the church at 538-8552 for information and order forms.

Orders and payments must be received by Oct. 14.

Orders may be placed by mail or by bringing the order, with payment, to the church. Orders will be available for pick up on Oct. 22 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Les Gemmes to meet

The Suffolk Les Gemmes Inc. will meet in the home of Evelyn Wall, 1213 Blythewood Lane, at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7.

Concert and luncheon

Main Street United Methodist Church presents James E. Derr, organist, for a concert and luncheon at noon on Friday, Oct. 7 at noon.

The concert, lasting 30 minutes, is free and followed by a soup and sandwich luncheon in the fellowship hall.

Donations for lunch ($5 suggested) will benefit the Organ Fund.

Derr has been serving Trinity Episcopal Church in Portsmouth since 1985.

As an organist and conductor, he has appeared in concert throughout the U. S., Canada, and England.

Yard Sale

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Ivor Rescue Squad will hold a yard sale on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Ivor Rescue Squad building.

Tables are available for $10.

Breakfast and lunch will be available.

Gardening presentation

Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. at West End Baptist Church (501 W. Washington St.), Brent Heath, a third generation bulb grower, author of two books and co-owner of Brent and Becky’s Bulbs in Gloucester, will present a slide lecture and share his love of gardening.

This event is sponsored by the Suffolk Council of Garden Clubs.

East Suffolk Gardens Civic League

The Bethlehem Ruritan Club, 140 Manning Road, will be having their Fall BBQ Pork Dinner, catered by Leon Nixon Catering, on Friday, Oct. 14.

Suffolk Volunteer Fire Company Turkey Shoot

The Suffolk Volunteer Fire Co. Turkey Shoot will start Oct. 14 and run through Nov. 19 on Friday and Saturday nights from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m.

The location is on Route 460 behind Oliver’s Auto (3624 Pruden Boulevard).

Turkey-Ham Shoots

Bennetts Creek Ruritan will be holding Turkey-Ham Shoots every Saturday evening from Oct. 1 through Nov. 26.

The shoots will be at a new location, 5433 Shoulders Hill Road.

The benefits help the Driver Volunteer Fire Department, Boy Scout Troop 16 and the North Suffolk YMCA.

Tickets go on sale each Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and the shoot starts at 6 p.m.

Pig Pickin’ for Hurricane Katrina donations

The Suffolk Pentecostal Holiness Church, 100 Kilby Shores Drive, is hosting a city wide &uot;All you can Eat Pig Pickin’&uot; on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children 5-12 and free for children under five.

There will be games and entertainment in addition to the delicious meal.

All proceeds and donations will go to Hurricane Katrina victims.

Fall Celebration

Main Street United Methodist Church, 202 North Main Street, is having their Fall Celebration and &uot;Get to Know You&uot; Harvest Hoedown on Sunday, Oct. 16 from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

Junto Woman’s Club luncheon meeting

The Junto Woman’s Club, a member of GFWC Virginia, will hold a luncheon meeting at noon on Monday, Oct. 17 in St. John’s Parish Hall.

The cost is $8.

The guest speaker will be Donna Pittman from the Red Cross.

The executive board will meet at 11 a.m. prior to the business meeting at St. John’s.

Suffolk Health Department events

Monday, Oct. 18, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the main lobby of the Chorey Park Apartments, there will be free blood pressure screenings.

Tuesday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Suffolk Senior Center, 350 N. Main Street, there will be free blood pressure and diabetes screenings.

Also on the 19th, there will be free blood pressure screenings at Suffolk Towers Apartments from 2 to 3 p.m.

AARP 55 Alive

The Junto Woman’s Club, a member of GFWC Virginia, will sponsor an AARP 55 Alive course from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 20 and 21 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church’s Family Life Center.

The instructor will be John Cramer and the cost is $10.

The program is designed to improve road safety by helping drivers become more aware of factors that can affect their ability to drive as they get older.

Girl Scout tea party

Come to a Teddy Bear Tea Party at Magnolia Methodist Church, 1764 Wilroy Road, on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 3 p.m.

This event is geared toward girls in kindergarten, but others are welcome to come and learn about Girl Scouting.

We also need adult volunteers.
