We, as members of the Suffolk-Nansemond Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America (Ikes), belong to one of the oldest and well respected environmental and conservation organizations in the U.S. There are more than 7,000 members in 23 chapters in Virginia and we have been here for more than 80 years. Ikes have made a difference in: road construction, toxic-waste dumping, river and stream pollution, preventing acid raid and promoting state and national land acquisition programs in order to place environmental sensitive land into the public trust.

We encourage hunting to ensure the health of herds and flocks of game species, fishing to guarantee a national sport heritage and recommend ways that man can live with nature and do it no harm so that we can give this as a legacy to our children’s children.

We recommend that you, as like minded individuals, check us out and consider joining our renowned, forward thinking organization.

We are a non-profit national organization that relies on donations and revenue from our pancake supper and wildlife calendar to implement all the environmental and conservation projects we take on each year. We also offer an annual scholarship to a graduating high school senior or a college student who plans to become involved in conservation or environmental work as a lifetime profession.
