Fallen Suffolk Police Officer William Drew Henley will be recognized in a ceremony in Washington, D.C.,

tomorrow.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund will remember 16 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty this year from Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C., during a wreath-laying ceremony. The service will be held at the memorial, located on E Street, at 1 p.m.

The organization holds the ceremony each October to commemorate the dedication of the memorial in 1991, said Chris Beakey, a NLEOMF spokesman. Approximately 200 people from the law enforcement community are expected to attend.

Monday’s ceremony is a precursor for the nationwide event during National Police Week in May, which is expected

to draw more than 20,000 people.

Henley’s name, along with fallen officers from around the nation, will be inscribed in the memorial before that event, Beakey said.

Henley died last March, collapsing several minutes after a chasing a suspect on foot. He died at the hospital.
