Virginia Hollemon Brinkley

Virginia Hollemon Brinkley of Lake Prince Center, died Nov. 14, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Robert Jackson Brinkley and Ava Ralston Philhower Brinkley. She was born Nov. 11, 1911.

She was a graduate of Suffolk High School and received her B.A. degree from Longwood College. She continued her studies of the romance languages receiving a Master of Arts degree from the University of Virginia. She taught at Suffolk High School for 35 years instilling the love for Latin and mythology in countless residents of Suffolk. Following &uot;retirement&uot; she continued teaching an additional 14 years at Nansemond Suffolk-Academy. She was a member of the Suffolk Christian Church and an active member of the choir until recently.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Rachael Philhower Brinkley Walton and her niece, Carol Walton Costenbader. She is survived by her grand-niece, Katherine Costenbader McCann of Asheville, N.C.; two grand-nephews, William B. Costenbader, III, of Charleston, S.C., and Walton Rawls Costenbader of Charlotte, N.C.; and one great-grand-nephew, William Allen McCann Jr. and one great-grand-niece, Emma Katherine McCann of Asheville, N.C; and a second cousin, John Artman of Edenton, N.C.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Suffolk Christian Church by the Rev. Michael D. Halley with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
