James Collins Winborne

James Collins Winborne Sr., of the 2300 block of Whaleyville Blvd., died Nov. 22, 2005 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by family and caregivers. He was a native of Suffolk and son of the late John H. and Eartha Savage.
He was a graduate of Booker T. Washington School. He retired as a Supervisor of Maintenance at Planters (Nabisco Brands) in 1987 after 42 years of service. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church where he was a trustee and church treasurer, and served on the Senior Usher Board.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Erma L. Winborne; his son, James C. Winborne Jr. and his wife Willetha D. Winborne of Citrus Springs, Fla.; a foster son, George K. Beamon and his wife Elaine of Suffolk; three sisters, Evora Owens of Newport News, Gwendolyn Blakemore (Robert), and Cynthia Ruther, both of Pittsburgh, Penn.; two brothers, Thomas Winborne (Ethel) of Newport News and Clifton H. Winborne (Sarah) of Suffolk; one grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 26, 2005 in Gethsemane Baptist Church by the Rev. Nathaniel Scates Jr. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
