Suspect sought in fatal stabbing

Police are searching for the suspect involved in the fatal stabbing of a northern Suffolk man over the weekend.

George A. Banks Jr., 38, of the 4600 block of Maplewood Drive was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital around 4:30 p.m. Sunday with stab wounds to the neck, said Lt. Debbie J. George, spokeswoman for the Suffolk Police Department.

He died a short time after arriving at the hospital.

Police are following several leads in Suffolk’s seventh homicide of the year and have talked to a possible suspect, George said. Although she refused to name the suspect but said he apparently knew the victim.
